It was these qualities that first set her apart when she joined R O’Donnell, where company owner Richard O’Donnell recognised something others had overlooked. He identified not only her natural talent and broad skillset, but also her conscientious approach and deep respect for the machinery she operated.
This recognition led to one of the defining moments of her career: being entrusted with a 27 tonne excavator that would become known as “Lady Lana”. More than just a machine, it became a symbol of trust, pride, and professional identity. The reveal of the machine marked a turning point, not just personally, but within the wider industry. Following Richard O’Donnell’s illness and the subsequent collapse of the company, Lana lost both her role and the machine that had become central to her identity. Despite this, her commitment to the industry has not wavered. She continues to pursue opportunities that match the standards and support she once experienced, demonstrating a level of resilience that defines her character.
Lana’s impact extends beyond her day to day role. Her recognition includes winning a Women in Construction award in 2022, alongside consistent placement in the Top 100 in 2023 and 2024, with further nominations reinforcing her standing within the sector.
