From three sites, two in the Midlands and one in Scotland, Russell Roof Tiles designs and manufactures a growing range of innovative concrete roof tiles and associated products, all produced to meet the latest quality standards and accreditations required by developers.
Russell Roof Tiles had spent years refining its innovative approach to concrete roofing, but the launch of the Bute3® tile has marked a major milestone for the company.
Full production of the Bute3® started in June 2025, with the independent firm having invested more than £20+ million and five years in design and development of the new product. The design of Bute3® pushed the boundaries of concrete roof tile manufacturing, which is produced on a new, fully automated, state-of-the-art tile line.
The new product was designed to meet the growing appetite for various regional roof finishes that combine traditional aesthetics with modern performance and faster installation.
Combining Traditional Appearance with Modern Performance
Bute3® combines the look of three traditional plain tiles into a single interlocking unit – delivering a traditional aesthetic while significantly speeding up installation. Part of its Natural Range, Bute3® is a revolutionary concrete tile, not only combining plain tiles with a standard interlocking roof tile format, but also, at only 14mm, is the same thickness as a standard concrete plain tile.
This blends innovative design with cutting-edge production techniques, making it the most versatile roof tile product in the UK market today.

Designed as a versatile alternative to small-format tiles, Bute3® can be installed on pitches as low as 25 degrees, offering specifiers greater flexibility across a range of housing designs. Bute3® has the appearance of three separate plain tiles but is installed as one, helping contractors reduce handling time and improve productivity on site.
The tile can be up to 33 per cent quicker to install than other small-format tiles. With only 10.9 tiles required per square metre (at a 75mm headlap), it also reduces the number of tiles needed on site – supporting faster roof completion and simpler logistics.
Sustainability and Manufacturing Innovation
Market response has been excellent, with both contractors and developers recognising that Bute3® provides a high-quality but cost-effective solution – a genuine alternative to small-format concrete roof covering.
Bute3® tile is produced with state-of-the-art curing technology, utilising solar PV to help power the manufacturing plant, making for a more efficient manufacturing process and using up to 30 per cent less energy to cure than clay tiles.
The product has been designed as a go-to solution for major developments where quality and consistency are essential. With continued and growing demand across the UK, the range has been enhanced with additional new colours, now offering a total of eight to meet the demands by local planners and specifiers.
